I don’t know what it means that when I hear stories of adoption… or pray for friends that are adopting or have adopted… or hold my sweet niece who, but for the grace of God would have been aborted… or hold the orphan’s hand in Haiti… that my heart skips a beat. We have three children… one on the way. Getting pregnant does not seem to be an issue for me. We did not plan for any of our children. God brought them into this family when He saw fit. I do not know if or when we will ever adopt, but that does not negate the call to believers to care for the widow and the orphan (James 1:27). That does not negate the fact that there is a HUGE orphan crisis in the world.
I can still be an advocate for the orphan. I can still speak out on behalf of those who do not have a voice. It starts here. I do not know what one voice can do. I do not know what one family can do… but I can start here… with this blog… I can share videos like this of people who have overcome much… who have answered the call to adopt… who have accepted the call to go against culture. I can spread their message.
Technology astounds me. With just a couple of clicks, I can embed a video on my blog. I can be thoughtful in this… I can be careless in this. I am often amazed at the stuff people share on facebook and wonder how much it was thought through before being posted. Once it’s out there in the internet world… it can’t be taken back. I hope my kids learn that early!
Anyway… I have thought through posting this video. John Piper is full of wisdom and has led and continues to lead a life dedicated to the Lord. Please take a few minutes and watch as he shares the story of how he grew up in a time of racism and how he has come to understand how the Lord views race.
