We have been given the opportunity to review SmartKidz Media Library for Homeschoolers from SmartKidz Media. With summer here and our regular schooling taking a break, using video based learning is a win for the family. We tend to get stuck on the same show (currently the Octonauts) and the kids have a hard time breaking free and watching new things. Big Brother is ten yet somehow at the mercy of his three year old sister when it comes to viewing choices!
SmartKidz Media Library for Homeschoolers
Because SmartKidz utilizes streaming and Cloud technology, you can access the library from any device. I am a big fan of this feature. It is nice to have safe video access when you find yourself waiting at a doctor’s appointment or working after hours at Vacation Bible School and your children are getting restless.
The site offers unlimited access to over 1000 videos, eBooks, study guides, and fine arts music. You can pay monthly ($10) or yearly ($99). Start with a 14 day trial to see what you think!

How We Used SmartKidz Media Library for Homeschoolers
We received a full year subscription to this online streaming library.
During the regular school year, we do not watch TV in the mornings, or really much at all outside of educational stuff. Well… morning comes early around these parts. These kids have yet to learn the beauty of sleeping in! I am NOT… Capital N.O.T. a morning person. Having access to safe, unlimited streaming of educational videos is a great solution for my non- morning person self.
We are also running hard and playing outside and swimming quite a bit. By the time afternoon gets here, the kids are hot and tired and laying around on the couch and floor… why not take advantage of that time and give them a chance to keep learning going.
I generally let the kids pick what they want to watch. Big Brother can’t wait until the Action Sports section comes. They mostly watch animal shows. I am particularly excited about the history, fine arts, and music. The videos that we have watched average about 25 minutes.
What Did We Think
I like the idea that I can find educational, inviting videos on a variety of subjects for my kids. I like that don’t have to worry about “suggested videos” that may pop up at the end (like on YouTube). There are no ads to filter through. The website is safe and easy to navigate.
Big Brother pointed out that he likes the videos for the most part, but did hear a bias towards evolution in the animal videos. I really don’t mind my kids hearing the word “evolution” and being exposed to various theories. I just wish that sites like this would be willing to share both sides and perhaps offer some young earth, creation based videos.
The videos are crisp an inviting for all my kids (ages 3, 5, 8, and 10) which is nice. There is just not a lot of great content on TV these days for the upper elementary crew.
